PEMBAHASAN ELLIPTICAL SENTENCE DAN CONTOH KALIMAT



ELLIPTICAL SENTENCE

                Elliptical adalah penghilangan kata atau sejumlah kata dari suatu kalimat yang bertujuan agar kalimat menjadi lebih pendek  dan lebih baik susunanya.

1.       POSITIVE ELLIPTIC

       Apabila dalam sebuah kalimat positif kita mendapati predikat yang sama, maka kita sebaiknya menggunakan kata “too” atau ”so” yang artinya juga.
       Perhatikan cara menggabungkan beberapa kalimat dibawah ini agar menjadi lebih singkat dan tersusun rapi, namum tidak merubah arti sama sekali.

Pola:
Too                : Subject 1 + auxiliary 1+ predicate (verb/non-verb) +and + subject 2+ auxiliary 2+, too.
So   : Subject 1 + auxiliary 1+ predicate (verb/non-verb) +and + so+ auxiliary 2+ subject 2.

2.       NEGATIVE ELLIPTICAL

        Apabila dalam sebuah kalimat negative kita mendapati predikat yang sama, maka kita sebaiknya menggunakan kata “either” atau “neither” yang artinya “juga tidak”.
Pola:
Either            : Subject 1 + auxiliary 1+ not+ predicate (verb/non-verb) +and + subject 2+ auxiliary 2+ not+ either.          
Neither          : Subject 1 + auxiliary 1+ not+ predicate (verb/non-verb) +and + neither+ auxiliary 2+ subject 2.

3.       CONTRARY ELLIPTIC
       
        Untuk sususan yang berlawanan, kita dapat menggunakan kata “but” yang artinya “tetapi”:
Pola:
Too                : Subject 1 + auxiliary 1+ predicate (verb/non-verb) +but+ subject 2+ auxiliary 2+ not.   
So   : Subject 1 + auxiliary 1+ not+ predicate (verb/non-verb) +but + subject 2+ auxiliary 2.

4.       Either … Or/ Neither … Nor



Example:
1.       He is busy and I am too.
He is busy and so am I.

2.       Mary is beautiful and you are too.
Mary is beautiful and so are you.

3.       My brother can swill well and you can too.
My brother can swim well and so can you.

4.       Alex buys a new car and Henry does too.
Alex buys a new car and so does Henry.

5.       Jack went to Bali and William did too.
Jack went to Bali and so did William.

6.       I will go to Singapore and you will too.
I will go to Singapore and so will you.

7.       Ed doesn’t like Mango and Al doesn’t either.
Ed doesn’t like Mango and neither does Al.

8.       My father won’t come there and I won’t either.
My father won’t come there and neither will I.

9.       She never comes here and he doesn’t either.
She never comes here and neither does he.

10.    She is not a doctor and I am not either.
She is not a doctor and neither am I.

11.    Sinta is not smart and Dony is not either.
Sinta is not smart and neither is Dony.
12.    He wasn’t ill and I wasn’t either.
He wasn’t ill and neither was I.

13.    Stephanie is clever but her sister isn’t.

14.    She doesn’t have a pen but I do.

15.    Rindy bought a new pair of shoes but Sinta didn’t.

16.    I don’t like smoking but he does.

17.    Arifah is a student but Fatimah isn’t.

18.    I will borrow a book in the public library but Nisa won’t.

19.    Either John or Toni is watching TV now.
