Natural Resources
The
materials which are supplied by the earth, that is, by nature, are called
natural resources. Some natural resources can be used again and again. They are
called renewable resources. Other natural resources can be used only once. They
are called 47 non-renewable resources.
Some areas
of the earth have been supplied with a lot of certain natural resources. Others
have few natural, resources, or perhaps none at all. Japan, for example,
imports iron sand from Indonesia, because this country does not have enough
iron ore for its industry. If a country has few natural resources, it will have
to import materials from other countries.
Among our natural resources are fuels such as coal and oil.
Precious minerals such as gold and silver are natural resources, too. Copper is
a natural resource. The minerals we use come from the inside of the earth.
Gold,
silver, and copper are minerals. The salt we use to flavor our food is a
natural resource. Our food too, for example rice, is supplied by nature.
The
important parts of the earth's surface provide many of our natural resources.
For example, we have water from lakes and streams. Water is a natural resource.
We get wood from our forests. Wood is a natural resource.
Air, too is
a natural resource. In fact, it is one of our most important the natural
resources. We'll die without enough air to breathe. In some cities the air has
become polluted because cars and others motor vehicles emit gas that mixes with
the air. Steps are now being taken to make the air clean and to keep it clean.

In the
ancient times, the number of people in the world was quite limited and they
lived peacefully in a small community. There was no crime, no starvation, no
beggar and almost no unemployment. Each family had only one or two children.
Though they led a simple life, they lived happily.
In the twentieth century the population of the
world has been increased rapidly. This may be because of the development of
knowledge and techno- logy, this situation worries the experts and state
leaders. They know that the uncontrolled growth of population will create
problems society, problems in health, education, housing, un employment and

believe that having a small family has a lot of advantages. We can look after
our children much better. We also can give our children good food and good
education so that they will grow healthily and happily.
